Hi all! I need an advice on how to wisely choose good protection against ddos attacks?

We survived a really nasty layer 4 ddos attack that almost saturated our entire bandwidth last Tuesday. Basic firewalls just dropped everything, including real users. We quickly had to route our traffic through a specialized mitigation network. It absorbed the volumetric junk and kept our core services online. Never going back to basic perimeter security ever again.
